CEBU, Philippines —  The San Remigio Properties punctuated its amazing run with an emphatic 84-77 victory over Shetzue’s Razor in their thrilling final match to clinch the championship of the Elite Basketball Cebu Recreational Division last Sunday, March 19, at the Visayan Glass gym in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Emmanuel Villamor galvanized his status as the season Most Valuable Player after dropping 32 points on top of six rebounds, three assists, and three steals to become the hands down choice as Finals MVP.

Marlone Batac chipped in 10 markers, seven boards, four dimes, and two steals while Lyle Sumayang and Nelson Peralta connived for 18 points, nine rebounds, and six assists as San Remigio Properties of coach Randy de la Pisa and Ralph Jude “RJ” Dinolan claimed the league’s coveted crown with a perfect 10-0 record.

“In my own humble opinion, achieving basketball excellence requires a mixture of talent, heart, and intelligence. I normally build the team in a way that even if there are only five remaining players on the court, I could still always count on their competitive mentality until the last buzzer of the game. This is how my generation played and this is how San Remigio Properties will always play,” San Remigio Basketball’s playing team owner Mark Anthony Ynoc wrote on his Facebook page.

“Sometimes we may not be successful but at least we can give ourselves that opportunity to win. This time, similar to the 82 other championships in 16 years that we’ve won, we sure did take home the Bacon!” Ynoc furthered.

It was a closely-fought battle from the get go that resulted to at least six lead changes. SanRem led by just a matchstick after three quarters, 61-60, but bravely held its ground against a tough endgame resistance by Shetzue’s Razor to walk away with a rousing seven-point triumph.

“Undefeated! Elite Recreational Division Champs! Unbelievable game. Thank you boys for the heart and efforts you’ve shown all through out the season,” Ynoc said.

Clark Louis Ruedas paced Shetzue’s Razor with 17 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals followed by Kim Trigue with 16 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Rubino Singson had 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in a losing effort. — EBV
