Libu-libong tankers asahang lalahok sa Asian swim meet
MANILA, Philippines – Mag-aagawan sa medalya ang higit sa 1,400 swimmers sa 11th Asian Age Group Swimming Championships sa Disyembre 3-14 sa Aquatics Center sa New Clark City sa Capas, Tarlac.
Ang mga events na nakalatag ay ang diving, water polo, swimming at artistic or synchronized swimming.
Bukod sa torneo para sa mga batang may edad na 11-anyos hanggang 18-anyos ay magdaraos din ang 45-country Asian Swimming Federation (ASF) ng kanilang Congress sa Clark.
Ang nasabing dalawang aktibidad ay inihayag nina Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino at Bases Conversion Development Authority Senior Vice President Corporate Services Group Arrey Perez sa logo launch.
Binigyan ng ASF ang POC at BCDA ng hosting rights para sa torneo na orihinal na itinakda noong 2020, ngunit inabot ng pandemya.
“We are handling the competition as a caretaker — as long as there’s no legitimate swimming body recognized (by the ASF and World Aquatics, formerly FINA),” ani Tolentino. “The POC and BCDA are together in this meet.”
Ang nasabing event ay magsisilbi ring qualifier para sa Paris 2024 Olympics.
Nakatakda naman bukas ang World Aquatics-ordered at POC-supervised elections para sa mga bagong miyembro ng board of trustees ng Philippine Swimming Inc.
“The Aquatics Center is in harness for the championships — from the competition aspect to the accommodation and other organizational needs of the delegates,” sabi ni Perez sa world-class facility sa Capas, Tarlac na naging centerpiece venue para sa 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
Dumalo rin sa logo launch sina organizing committee head Jojit Alcazar at POC deputy secretary-general for international affairs Bones Floro.
