19 atleta posible sa Tokyo Olympics — Fernandez

MANILA, Philippines — Noong 2016 Olympic Games na idinaos sa Rio de Janeiro, Brazil ay 13 national athletes ang isinabak ng Pilipinas tampok ang pagbuhat ni  weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz sa silver medal.

Kahapon ay nakumpirma ang paglahok ni golfer Juvic Pagunsan para maging ika-13 qualifier ng bansa sa 2021 Olympics na nakatakda sa Hulyo 23 hanggang Agosto 8 sa Tokyo, Japan.

Naniniwala si Philippine Sports Commissioner Ramon Fernandez na posibleng umabot sa 19 ang mga mailalahok ng bansa sa 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

“We’re hoping that we can send a lot of athletes and most of these guys have really stepped up on their performances the past two years given the experience to compete worldwide at the highest level of competition,” ani Fernandez kahapon sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum online edition.

Bukod kina Diaz at Pagunsan, ang iba pang Olympic qualifiers ay sina shooter Jayson Valdez, weightlifter Elreen Ando, pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena, skateboarder Margielyn Didal, gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo, taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa, rower Cris Nievarez at boxers Eumir Felix Marcial, Irish Magno, Nesthy Petecio at Carlo Paalam.

Pasok din si four-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Kiyomi Watanabe sa continental quota system ng judo base sa Olympic rankings niyang No. 9 sa women’s -63 kilogram division.
