MANILA, Philippines — Bumiyahe na si 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz papuntang Tashkent, Uzbekistan para sumabak sa Asian Weightlifting Championships.

Nakasama ng 30-an-yos na si Diaz sa pag-alis mula sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia sina Chinese head coach Kaiwen Gao, strength and conditioning coach Julius Naranjo at therapist Belen Banas.

“Pray for our safety and hope the team Philippines will perform well in the Olympic Qualifying,” sabi ng tubong Zamboanga City.

Nakatakda sa Abril 16 hanggang 25 ang torneo, ang pinakahuling qualifying meet ng weightlifting para sa 2021 Olympics na idaraos sa Tokyo, Japan.

Kailangan lamang ni Diaz na magpalista at lumahok sa nasabing Asian tourney para pormal na sikwatin ang Olympic ticket at makasama ang mga nag-qualify nang sina gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo, pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena at boxers Eumir Felix Marcial, Irish Magno, Nesthy Petecio at Carlo Paalam.

Ito ang magiging ika-anim na Olympic qualifying meet na sasalihan ng 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medal winner para sa pang-apat niyang pagsalang sa quadrennial event matapos noong 2008 (Beijing), 2012 (London) at 2016 (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).

Lalahok din sa Asian meet sina 2019 SEA Games gold medalist Kristel Macrohon, Elreen Ando, John Febuar Ceniza at John Dexter Tabique.
