MANILA, Philippines — Bukod kay Ateneo Blue Eagles import Angelo Kouame ay puwedeng magkaroon ang Gilas Pilipinas ng apat pang natura­lized players.

Ito ang sinabi kahapon ni House Deputy Speaker Mikee Romero sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum webcast edition.

Hinikayat ni Romero si Rep. Robbie Puno, ang nag-akda sa House Bill 5951 para sa naturalizaiton ng tubong Ivory Coast na si Kouame, na kausapin ang Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) para sa iba pang imports na gusto nilang maging natura­lized player.

“I’ve talked to Robbie (Puno) to ask Gilas or the MVP (Manny V. Pangilinan) group to already submit to the House at least five pla­yers that can be naturalize because the process is still the same eh, so bakit hindi na lang namin pagsama-samahin,” ani Romero.

Noong Disyembre ay i­naprubahan ng House Committee on Justice ang House Bill 5951 ni Puno para sa naturalization ng 22-anyos at 6-foot-10 na si Kouame,

“From the five na mana-naturalize mamili na lang ng isa o dalawang pla­yers na isasama sa (Gilas) national pool at any given time,” ani Romero. “But there should be five naturalized imports na puwedeng si (Justin) Brownlee, puwedeng malaki, puwedeng maliit depende sa competition ng Gilas.”

Bukod kina Kouame at Brownlee, ang resident import ng Ginebra Gin Kings sa PBA, isa rin sa maaaring gawing natura­lized player ng SBP ay si import Chris McCullough na tumulong sa San Miguel Beermen na pagharian ang 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Pinaghahandaan ng Gilas Pilipinas ang third at final window ng FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers.
