Obiena kumpiyansa sa tsansa nina Cray, Knott at Morrison

MANILA, Philippines — Naniniwala si pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena na may makakasama siya sa pagsabak sa athletics event ng 2021 Olympic Games sa Tokyo, Japan.
Kabilang sa mga ito ay sina Fil-American Eric Cray sa men’s 400-meter hurdles, Kristina Knott sa women’s 200m run at William Morrison sa men’s shot put.
“Each and everyone of us has different motivations and you just kind a stick to it,” sabi ng 6-foot-1 na si Obiena, ang unang Pinoy na nakakuha ng tiket sa 2021 Tokyo Olympics. “If you really believe on something, just try and do it. You just gonna try each day to just keep improving on your stuff.”
Bukod sa 24-anyos na si Obiena, ang tatlo pang nakapagbulsa ng Olympic berth ay sina gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo at boxers Eumir Felix Marcial at Irish Magno.
Kasalukuyang nagsasanay si Obiena sa Formia, Italy habang nasa Texas, Florida at Iowa, USA naman sina Cray, Knott at Morrison, ayon sa pagkakasunod.
“When you go to training, try to stay motivated, try to focus on the small things that you can improve on. Those small things will pile up and that will make you a better athlete,” ani Obiena.
May personal best time na 48.98 segundo si Cray at hangad makuha ang Olympic standard na 48.80 segundo habang si Si Knott ay may best time na 23.01 segundo para makadikit sa Olympic standard na 22.80 segundo.
Kapos naman ang 20.21m ni Morrison sa Olympic standard na 21.10m.
