Gawilan swak na sa Tokyo Olympics

MANILA, Philippines — Inaasahan ng Philippine Sports Commission ang marami pang Filipinong atleta na makapasok sa 2020 Paralympic Games sa Tokyo, Japan.

Ipinahayag ng PSC ang kanilang kagalakan sa tagumpay ni 2018 Asian Games gold medallist Ernie Gawilan matapos itong makasiguro ng tiket sa Tokyo Olympics.

Nasungkit ni Gawilan ang slot sa Tokyo nang ihayag ng International Paralympic Committee ang nakuha niyang qualifying points mula sa iba’t ibang international competitions na kanyang sinalihan kabilang na ang 2018 Asian Para Games at 2019 World Para Swimming Championships.

“The PSC consistently supports this campaign by providing Philippine Sports Association for the Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC) financial aid and foreign exposure for its athletes,” pahayag ng PSC.

Si Gawilan na isang miyembro ng National Paralympic Swimming Team ay nagsasanay sa bagong tayo na Aquatic Center sa New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac.

Noong nakaraang buwan, nagbigay ng mahigit P800,000 ang PSC para sa mga miyembro ng national para swimming team, women’s basketball team at para-sitting volleyball team. Kasama na sa nasabing halaga ang bayad sa kanilang training venue rental, allowances, meals at accommodation expenses.

Ayon naman sa PPC, malaki rin ang tsansa ni Gary Bejino na isa ring promising bet sa para-swimming na sumunod sa yapak ni Gawilan.

“We are expecting more slots to be opened by each international federation (IF) per sport,” ayon kay PPC Executive Director Dennis Esta.
