Tiyaking ligtas ang students sa COVID-19

ORA MISMO - Butch M. Quejada - Pilipino Star Ngayon

“Precautionary measures such as physical distancing and frequent hand-washing will not be feasible in many public schools in the country if classes would resume without addressing these perennial problems of our education system. Cutting down class sizes, having sufficient health personnel in the school level and ensuring enough infrastructure facilities in schools such as classrooms and working restrooms are concrete measures the DepEd could implement before reopening for the new school year.

“In a country where most of its pupils in public schools have barely enough for basic needs such as food and adequate shelters, distance learning may not be an applicable set up for the resumption of classes. To be able to reopen classes, the Duterte administration should first install safety measures in schools to determine when classes can resume and ensure the safety of our students, teachers and other education support personnel.

“We already filed HB 227 Regulating Class Size in all Public Schools and we have already drafted a bill providing one nurse and one doctor for every public elementary and high school which follows international standards. These are preventive measures the Department of Education should impose in schools to combat communicable di-seases,” sabi ni Castro.
