MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) has indicted Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) board member Sandra Cam, her son and six others for the murder of Butuan, Masbate Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III, an official said yesterday.

Citing a Feb. 22 resolution, Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) spokesperson Honey Delgado said the prosecutors found probable cause to file charges of murder against Cam, Marco Martin Cam, Nelson Cambaya, Junel Gomez and Rigor dela Cruz for Yuson’s killing and charges of frustrated murder for wounding Alberto Alforte IV.

Delgado said the charge sheets are being readied for the formal filing of charges in court, more than a year after the DOJ conducted a preliminary investigation of the case.

The charges filed against Cam and seven others stemmed from the complaint of Yuson’s widow Lalaine and his brother Charlie Jr., based on the investigation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation.

Yuson was killed while Alforte was wounded when motorcycle-riding assailants shot them while they were having breakfast in Sampaloc, Manila on Oct. 9, 2019.
