Ligtas na coverage sa halalan apela ng mediamen

MANILA, Philippines — Hinikayat ng mga miyembro ng media ang national at local government units na tiyaking ligtas at hindi pipigilan ang coverage sa paparating na May 2025 midterm elections.

Ang Movement for Media Safety Philippines ay nanawagan sa Commission on Elections, sa lahat ng stakeholders at law enforcement na siguruhin ang ligtas na media coverage.

“It is in the interest of all stakeholders — from government to candidates to Filipino voters — to protect the safety and rights of journalists and media workers covering the midterm polls. A safe media environment is crucial to ensuring clean, credible and orderly elections,” ayon sa pahayag.

Giit pa na ang mga pag-atake sa mga mamamahayag ay itinuturing na mga paglabag sa papel ng media sa ilalim ng Fair Election Act o Republic Act 9006, ang Omnibus Election Code, o ang Revised Penal Code.

Hinimok din ang mga miyembro ng media na ireport ang anumang banta, harassment, illegal detention, torture, o physical violence sa panahon ng election coverage sa [email protected] o kaya ay sa National Union of Journalists of the Philippines Safety Hotline 09602784263.

Umabot sa mahigit 62 ang signatories ng nasabing pahayag, kabilang ang National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC), Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), Center for Community Journalism and Development (CCJD), University of the Philippines College of Media and Communication (UP CMC), Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP), Freedom for Media Freedom for All (FMFA) Coalition,Photojournalists’ Center of the Philippines (PCP) at iba pa.
