MANILA, Philippines — Umabot sa kabuuang 62.69 megawatts (MW) ng kuryente ang natipid ng Pilipinas sa idinaos na Earth Hour 2023 noong Sabado.

Ayon sa Department of Energy (DOE), ang pinakamalaking electricity savings sa naturang one-hour switch-off ay naitala sa Luzon, na nakatipid ng 33.29 MW.

Sinundan ito ng Min­danao na may 20.5 MW at Visayas na may 8.9 MW.

Matatandaang nakiisa ang maraming Pinoy sa Earth Hour 2023 na idinaos noong Sabado, na sabay-sabay nagpatay ng mga non-essential lights sa pagitan ng alas-?8:30 ng gabi hanggang alas-9:30 ng gabi.

Layunin nitong mabawasan ang epekto ng climate change.

Kaugnay nito, nanawagan sa publiko si Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla na patuloy na magtipid ng kuryente, sa pamamagitan ng pagpatay ng mga non-essential lights at pagpili ng mga appliances, equipment at makina, na mas energy efficient.

“These are simple yet valuable actions that we can do easily not only for our planet but more especially during periods of high demand such as this summer season,” aniya.
