Magalong balik-tracing czar kung trip ni Duterte, kahit resignation 'irrevocable'

MANILA, Philippines — Kung hihilingin ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, babawiin ni Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong ang naunang desisyon na magbitiw bilang coronavirus disease (COVID-19) contact tracing czar — kahit una na niyang sinabing pinal na ang kanyang salita.

Ito ang ibinahagi ng alkalde sa panayam ng ANC, Martes, habang umaasa na hindi na raw aabot kay Duterte ang usapin.

"It is a situation where no one can refuse if the president tells you to stay and perform your job. I cannot refuse the president," ani Magalong ngayong araw.

"Pero hindi naman siguro aabot na kay presidente, ang dami nang problema ni presidente. Siguro at the level of Sec. [Carlito] Galvez, makapag-desisyon na."

Si Galvez ang tumatayong chief implementer ng National Task Force Against COVID-19.

Una nang nag-tender ng kanyang "irrevocable" resignation si Magalong sa pagiging contact tracing czar matapos dumalo sa party na lumabag sa COVID-19 health protocols. 

Sa kabila niyan, vocal ang Palasyo at iba't ibang miyembro ng Gabinete sa kanilang hindi pagsang-ayon sa kanyang desisyon.

Ayon kay presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, Galvez at National Action Plan Against COVID-19 deputy chief implementer Secretary Vince Dizon, pakikiusapan nila si Magalong para hindi talikdan ang tungkulin, bagay na kanyang nagampanan daw nang maayos.

"I have heard with my own two ears nothing but words of praises for Mayor Magalong from the president," ani Roque sa isang press briefing kanina.

"I am sure, 100% sure that the president would want Mayor Magalong to stay on as tracing czar."

Sa huling ulat ng Department of Health nitong Lunes, umabot na sa 527,272 ang tinatamaan ng COVID-19 sa Pilipinas. Sa bilang na 'yan patay na ang 10,807. — James Relativo
