Minorya kontra sa 1-year extension ng martial law

MANILA, Philippines — Hindi na kanakailangan pa ng isa pang taong martial law sa Mindanao, ayon sa minorya ng Senado ngayong Biyernes.

Sinabi nina Sens. Bam Aquino, Franklin Drilon, Risa Hontiveros, Francis Pangilinan at Antonio Trillanes IV na kailangan nang wakasan ang martial law upang tuluyan nang makabalik ang mga apektadong residente ng kaguluhan sa Marawi City.

“Martial law is also the reason why they are afraid to return, even in cleared areas," pahayag ng grupo.

Inirekomenda ng Philippine National Police at Armed Forces of the Philippines kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang isa pang taon ng martial law.

Isinailalim ang buong Mindanao sa batas militar noong Mayo 23 matapos atakihin ng Maute terror group ang Marawi City.

"As security forces reign supreme during martial law, would not military rule actually get in the way of a people-centered rebuilding and rehabilitating of the once vibrant city," patuloy nila.

Nasa 36 barangay pa sa naturang lungsod ang hindi pa maaaring balikan ng mga residente dahil sa patuloy na clearing operations ng militar.
