MANILA, Philippines — Kasunod ng kaniyang pagreretiro, itinalaga na si dating military chief Gen. Eduardo Año bilang undersecretary ng Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Hindi pa maaaring kalihim ng DILG si Año dahil sa isang taong ban sa mga military officials ngunit tiniyak ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na makukuha niya ito sa susunod na taon.
Noong Mayo pa sana ang pagtatalaga kay Año ngunit ipinagpaliban matapos sumiklab ang kaguluhan sa Marawi City.
Tumagal ng limang buwan ang pakikipagbakbakan ng gobyerno sa ISIS-inspired na Maute terror group.
"The crowning jewel of his impressive career is the battle for the liberation of Marawi which resulted in the neutralization of almost a thousand IS-inspired insurgents which include high-value targets being hunted around the world," pahayag ni Duterte.
Nabakante ang pwesto sa DILG matapos masibak ang dating kalihim na si Ismael Sueno.
Si Lt. Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero naman ang nakakuha ng naiwang posisyon ni Año's sa AFP.
