MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Paeng (Trami) has developed stronger winds but is unlikely to affect weather in the Philippines, PAGASA said in its Monday morning weather bulletin.

According to PAGASA weather specialist Ariel Rojas, the typhoon was 1,100 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City in Cagayan as of early Monday morning and was moving west northwest at 20 kilometers per hour.

It has gathered strength since the weather bulletin on Sunday night and now has maximum sustained winds of 170 kph and gustiness of up to 210 kph.

Rojas said that the country can expect fair weather despite the typhoon being in the Philippine Area of Responsibility, but localized thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening. No storm warning signals have been raised anywhere in the country.

Based on its projected track, the typhoon may make landfall near Taiwan.

The typhoon is forecast to leave the PAR on Saturday, September 29.
