Philippine,US coast guards nagsagawa ng joint military drills sa West Philippine Sea
MANILA, Philippines — Nagsagawa sa kaunaunahang pagkakataon ang coast guard vessels ng Pilipinas at Estados Unidos ng joint maritime exercises kasama ang mga naval at air force units sa pinagtatalunang teritoryo sa South China Sea (West Philippine Sea).
Ayon sa Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) ang war drills na ginanap nitong Martes sa karagatan ng Palawan at Occidental Mindoro ay nilahukan ng Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force at Philippine Coast Guard kasama ang US Coast Guard Cutter Stratton at US Navy P8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft.
Kabilang naman sa isinagawang aktibidad ay ang communication drills at search and rescue operations.
“Joint activities like the MCA reaffirm the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ commitment to modernising its capabilities and strengthening defence partnerships to secure our national and regional maritime interests”, pahayag ni AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr.
Bukod sa Pilipinas ang hurisdiksiyon sa WPS ay pinag-aagawan ng mga bansa na kinabibilangan ng Taiwan, Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam kung saan pinakaagresibo ang China na sangkot sa pambu-bully at harassment.
