POC may pabuya sa Pinoy curlers

MANILA, Philippines — Hindi biro ang nakamit na tagumpay ng Philippine men’s national curling team nang masungkit nito ang kauna-unahang gintong medalya nito sa Asian Winter Games.

Naghari ang Pinoy squad sa ikasiyam na edisyon ng Asian Winter Games sa Harbin, China noong nakaraang linggo.

Kaya naman karapat-dapat itong parangalan bago bumalik ang tropa sa Switzerland.

Binigyan ni Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino ng cash reward ang Pinoy curlers sa pre-flight lunch nito sa New World Hotel sa Makati City.

Tumanggap ang bawat miyembro ng koponan ng tig-$5,000 pabuya o mahigit P280,000 mula sa POC Executive Board.

“The incentive may not parallel their effort and dedication—and even the expenses they perso­nally incurred—but it’s one small way for the POC to show its gratitude to the team,” ani Tolentino.

Present sa seremonya sina Marc Pfister, Christian Haller, Enrico Pfister, Alen Frei, alternate at Curling Pilipinas president Benjo Delarmente gayundin si Jessica Pfister.

Malaki ang sakripisyo ng curling team gaya ng pagpondo sa sarili nitong preparasyon at pagsabak sa ilang international competitions bilang paghahanda sa Asian Winter Games.

“It’s no joke funding your own participation in international events speci­fically a blue-chip sport like curling,” ani Tolentino.

Sunod na tututukan ng curling team ang mag­kwalipika sa Winter Olympics na gaganapin sa susunod na taon sa Italy.
