4 teams unahan sa 2nd win

MANILA, Philippines — Puntirya ng reigning champion University of the Philippines (UP) at ng tatlo pang koponan ang ikalawang sunod na panalo sa pagpapatuloy ng UAAP Season 85 men’s basketball tournament ngayong araw sa PhilSports Arena sa Pasig City.

Sasagupain ng Fighting Maroons ang Adamson University sa ala-una ng hapon matapos ang salpukan ng University of the East at Far Eastern University sa alas-11 ng umaga.

Kasunod nito ang du­welo ng University of Santo Tomas at De La Salle University sa alas-4:30 ng hapon kasunod ang engkuwentro ng Ateneo de Manila University at National University sa  alas-6:30 ng gabi

Nakatali sa four-way tie sa No. 1 ang Fighting Maroons, Blue Eagles, Bulldogs at Growling Tigers matapos manaig sa kani-kanyang unang laro.

Mainit na sinimulan ng UP ang title-retention bid nito matapos igupo ang La Salle via come-from-behind 72-69 win sa opening day noong Sabado.

Bumandera sa naturang panalo si Gilas Pilipinas standout Carl Tamayo na naglatag ng 18 puntos, 19 rebounds, dalawang assists at dalawang steals para pamunuan ang Fighting Maroons sa panalo.

Kaya naman inaasa­hang muling aariba para sa UP si Tamayo kasama sina Malick Diouf at Terrence Fortea upang hablutin ang ikalawang panalo.

Sa kabila ng panalo, hindi pa kuntento si Figh­ting Maroons head coach Goldwyn Monteverde sa galaw ng kanyang bataan dahil marami pang kailangang plantsahin para mas maging solido ang kanilang laro.

“I think we need to be organized in our game. It’s just the first game, but it’s not a reason to be playing in a situation like that.  As  Carl said, they just never gave up so things need to improve well,” ani Monteverde.
