2 ginto ng Pinas tiyak na sa 10-ball event

MANILA, Philippines — Sigurado na ang dalawang gold medal ng Pilipinas sa billiards event ng 31st Southeast Asian Games sa Hanoi, Vietnam.

Ito ay matapos plantsahin nina men’s 9-ball winner Johann Chua at Carlo Biado at women’s 9-ball queen Rubilen Amit at Chezka Centeno ang kani-kanilang final matches.

Tinalo ni Chua si Aloyasius Yapp ng Singapore, 9-2, at binigo ni Biado, ang 2021 US Open champion at two-time SEA Games gold medalist, si Singapo­rean Sharik Sayed, 9-3, sa semifinals para ayusin ang kanilang gold medal duel.

Nauna nang tinakasan ni Chua si Biado sa finals ng men’s 9-ball.

Dinomina naman ni Amit si Pennipa Nakjui ng Thailand, 7-0 habang nilusutan ni Centeno, ang reig­ning 10-ball singles SEA Games champion, Xuan Vang Bui ng Vietnam, 7-5, sa semis.

Noong 2019 Manila SEA Games ay dinaig ni Centeno si Amit sa finals ng women’s 10-ball.

Dahil sa all-Pinoy finals sa men’s at women’s 10-ball ay tutumbok ang Philippine billiards and snooker team ng kabuuang 4 gold, 3 silver at 2 bronze medals sa kampanya sa Vietnam SEA Games. Ang dalawang tansong medalya ay galing kina billiards legend Efren “Bata” Reyes at Francisco dela Cruz sa one-cushion carom.
