Tsukii, Philippine beach volley teams bigong makakuha ng Olympic slot

MANILA, Philippines — Hindi nabigyan si national karateka Junna Tsukii ng continental slot at bigo rin ang national men’s at women’s beach volleyball teams na makakuha ng Olympic Games ticket.

Sa inilabas na listahan ng World Karate Federation (WKF) ay wala ang pangalan ng 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist na si Tsukii sa mga kalahok sa women’s kumite -55 kilogram division.

“I have done everything for this goal, and I’m full of sadness that I cannot respond to the feelings of those who supported me,” sabi ng 29-anyos na Fil-Japanese.

Nasibak si Tsukii sa second round ng World Olympic Qualification Tournament sa Paris, France noong nakaraang linggo kaya umasang mabibigyan ng WKF ng continental slot sa 2021 Olympics sa Tokyo, Japan.

Yumukod rin sa kani-kanilang karibal sina 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Jamie Lim, Fil-American Joane Orbon, Jayson Macaalay, Ivan Agustin at Sharief Afif sa kumite at sina John Enrico Vasquez at Sarah Pangilinan sa kata.

Sa Olympic qualifying tournament na AVC Continental Cup sa Nakhom Pathom, Thailand ay minalas ring makasikwat ng Olympic berth ang national men’s at women’s beach volleyball squads.

Natalo sa semis ang mga tambalan nina Sisi Rondina at Bernadeth Pons, Dij Rodriguez at Baby Love Barbon sa women’s class at ang mga tandem nina Jaron Requinton at James Buytrago at Anthony Arbasto at Jude Garcia sa men’s category.

Kasalukuyang may 12 qualifiers na ang bansa para sa 2021 Tokyo Olympics na nakatakda sa Hulyo 23 hanggang Agosto 8.

Tumatarget pa ng Olympic berth sina national archers Riley Silos, Jason Feliciano, Carson Hastie, Phoebe Amistoso at ang magkapatid na Pia at Monica Bidaure sa Final Qualification Tournament sa Paris.

Kumpirmasyon naman para sa Olympic spot ang hinihintay nina 2019 US Women’s Open champion Yuka Saso, Bianca Pagdanganan at Juvic Pagunsan.

Umakyat si Saso sa No. 8 sa pinakabagong International Golf Federation (IGF) women’s rankings, habang nasa No. 42 si Pagdanganan at nasa No. 51 si Pagunsan sa men’s division.
