Gavina bagong coach ng ROS

MANILA, Philippines — Naatasan si long-time assistant coach Chris Gavina bilang pinakabagong head coach ng Rain or Shine simula sa papalapit na 46th PBA Season sa Abril, ayon sa anunsyo ng Elasto Painters kahapon.

“We are excited to announce the appointment of coach Chris (Gavina) as Rain or Shine’s head coach. He brings with him several years of experience as a coach in both the PBA and the MPBL,” anang koponan sa opisyal na pahayag.

Pinalitan ni Gavina si Garcia na mananatili sa koponan bilang head of basketball operations matapos ang head coaching stint nang humalili kay Yeng Guiao noong 2016.

Ito ang pagbabalik ni Gavina sa head coaching post sa PBA matapos magsilbing mentor ng KIA/Mahindra (ngayon ay Terrafirma) noong 2016 hanggang 2018.

Simula 2018 rin ay naging assistant na ni Garcia si Gavina sa Elasto Painters kasabay ng coaching duties para sa Valen-zuela Classics at Bacoor Strikers sa Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.

Dadatnan ng 42-anyos na tactician ang solidong koponan ng Rain or Shine sa pangunguna nina James Yap, Beau Belga, Gabe Norwood, Javee Mocon, Rey Nambatac, Norbert Torres at Jewel Ponferada.

Ito na ang ikalawang development sa kampo ng ROS matapos ding i-trade sina Clint Doliguez at Sydney Onwubere sa Northrport kapalit ang beteranong big man na si Bradwyn Pinto.

Hangarin ng ROS na makabalik bilang top contender sa PBA matapos ang quarterfinal exit sa 2020 Philippine Cup sa loob ng bubble sa Clark, Pampanga. Unang magiging order of business ni Gavina bilang bagong ROS mentor ang pagpili ng kukunin nilang manlalaro para sa No. 5 pick ng bigating 2021 PBA Rookie Draft sa Marso 14.

Ilan lamang sa pagpipilian ni Gavina sa star-studded na rookie draft sina Joshua Munzon, Jaime Malonzo, Calvin Oftana, Santi Santillan, Troy Rike, Larry Muyang, Alvin Pasaol, Franky Johnson, Mikey Williams, Ben Adamos at Taylor Statham.
