Cone, Black naniniwala sa kakayahan ni Sotto Ulanday

MANILA, Philippines — Tiwala pa rin ang mga batikang pro mentors at dating national team coaches na sina Tim Cone, Chot Reyes at Norman Black na mararating ni Kai Sotto ang pangarap sa NBA sa kabila ng masaklap na pakikipaghiwalay ng landas sa NBA G League at mother club na Ignite.

“There’s no need to rush anything. Kai’s still young. He should just continue doing what he’s doing-- sharpening his skills & getting stronger. I’m sure his camp is carefully planning next steps,” ani TNT coach Reyes.

Nitong linggo ay na-gimbal ang buong sambayanan sa anunsyo ng G League na hindi na babalik sa Ignite ang 7-foot-3 teen sensation na pag-asa ng bansa na maging kauna-unahang homegrown Pinoy sa NBA.

Matatandaang sa permiso ng Ignite ay iniwan pansamantala ni Sotto ang noon ay papasimula nang G League Season sa Disney bubble upang maglaro sana sa Gilas Pilipinas sa naurong na 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.

Sa edad na 18-anyos pa lamang, marami pang oportunidad ang nag-aabang para kay Sotto ayon kay Black, na chief tactician ng Meralco at assistant coach sa Gilas. “I think Kai being only 18 yrs old has his whole career and many options ahead of him. I’m sure his advisers led by his father will give him sound advise on what path his career should take,” aniya.

Gayundin ang sentim-yento ni Cone ng Ginebra, bilang winningest coach sa kasaysayan ng PBA, hawak ang 23 kampeonato. “We all go through setbacks. It’s how we respond to them that counts. We learn and we move forward. I expect Kai will do the same,” saad niya.

Wala pang pahayag ang kampo ni Sotto sa kung ano ang susunod na hakbang niya.
