MANILA, Philippines — Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan has ordered a week-long hard lockdown in some portions of Barangay 8 after the number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases reached 34.

Tupada and Salmon streets were placed under extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ) from Thursday midnight until June 11.

Barangay 8 is adjacent to Barangay 12, which was recently placed under hard lockdown following the rise in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.

“Under these circumstances, no one will be allowed to enter or leave the quarantined area. The residents should not worry because starting today and Thursday we will deliver food packs so there is no reason for them to go out of their houses,” Malapitan told The STAR.

More than 20 police officers were deployed in the areas leading to Tupada and Salmon streets to ensure safety and order during the EECQ.

Barangay 8 has a population of 28,000, according to the Caloocan public information office.
