Philippine volleybelles ginastusan ng PSC para sa SEAG training

MANILA, Philippines — Hindi tinipid ni Philippine Sports Commission chairman William “Butch” Ramirez ang pagha-handa ng national women’s volleyball team para sa darating na 30th Southeast Asian Games.

Naglatag ang PSC ng pondong P1.7 milyon para sa training camp ng women’s volleyball squad ni coach Shaq Delos Santos sa Japan bilang paghahanda sa 2019 SEA Games na nakatakda sa Nobyembre 30 hanggang Disyembre 11.

“We know that Japan is the gold standard in Asian volleyball. They may not be tall, but they are quick, tactical and very disciplined,” wika ni Ramirez, dating basketball coach ng Ateneo de Davao University bago nailuklok sa government sports agency.

Sa kanilang 12-day training camp sa Tokyo, Japan ay makakasukatan ng mga Pinay spikers ang mga club teams na Kashiwa Angel Cross, Yamanashi Chuo Bank, Gunma Bank Green Wings at Hitachi.

Makakatapat din ng Nationals ang mga collegiate teams na Nittai University at Aoyama University.

“That’s why we’re throwing our all-out support to this training camp. We feel that with just the right training program and exposure winning a medal in the SEA Games will be very possible,” dagdag pa ni Ramirez.

Ang koponan ay binubuo nina Alyssa Valdez, Fil-Am spiker Kalei Mau, middle blocker Majoy Baron, veterans Mika Reyes, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Aby Maraño, Frances Molina, Rhea Dimacula-ngan, Dawn Macandili, Mylene Paat, Maddie Madayag, Eya Laure, Kat Arado at Jia Morado. Katuwang naman ni Delos Santos sa coaching staff sina Kungfu Reyes at Brian Esquibel.

Matapos angkinin ang bronze medal noong 2005 Manila SEA Games ay hindi nakalahok ang Nationals sa sumunod na apat na edisyon bago nagbalik noong 2015 at 2017 sa Singapore at Kuala Lumpur, ayon sa pagkakasunod.
