MANILA, Philippines — Pinayuhan ni Top Rank Promotions chief Bob Arum si eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao na magretiro na lamang sakaling hindi matuloy ang laban nito kay undefeated American pug Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Nais ni Arum na pangalagaan si Pacquiao na ilang dekada rin nitong nakasama sa kainitan ng kanyang karera.

Bilib si Arum sa abilidad ni Pacquiao kung boksing ang pag-uusapan.

Magagandang salita rin ang binibitawan ni Arum sa personal na buhay ni Pacquiao at sa pagi-ging mabuting tao.

Kaya ganun na lamang ang pag-aalala ni Arum para sa dating alaga.

“Pacquiao, I promoted him for many, many years. He’s an exceptionally good human being, really a fine guy, extraordinarily charitable and a delight,” ani Arum.

Galing si Pacquiao sa matagumpay na laban kontra kay Keith Thurman para makopo ang World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight crown noong Hulyo.

“But he’s (almost) 41-years-old. And if you’re 41 you can’t take punishment. You can’t take blows like he did in the Thurman fight. Sure, he won that fight - but he took a lot of punishment. That punishment is going to have a serious effect on how he lives for the rest of is life,” ani Arum.

Wala pang pinal na desisyon ang Team Pacquiao kung sino ang sunod na makakalaban nito.

Ngunit nangunguna sa listahan sina International Boxing Federationg (IBF) welterweight champion Errol Spence at World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight king Shawn Porter na nakatakdang magharap sa Setyembre 28 sa Staples Center sa Los Angeles, California.

“If he gets Maywea-ther, do that fight and retire. If he doesn’t get Mayweather he should retire. It’s not worth it for him to continue boxing,” ani Arum.
