Unang panalo ni Uichico sa MPBL
BIÑAN, Laguna, Philippines — Hindi nahirapan si coach Jong Uichico na mag-adjust sa una niyang MPBL game matapos ihatid ang Bataan Risers sa 75-62 paggupo sa host team na Krah Heroes kamakalawa ng gabi dito sa Alonte Sports Arena.
Isang nine-time PBA champion coach, sinandigan ni Uichico ang ball movement at team play para sa panalo ng Risers.
“This is something new. There’s not much teaching to do as you have no control of what’s happening at times. It’s a free-flowing game,” wika ni Uichico. “But I have to adjust. I need to rely on team play, ball movement, hoping we could go through from there as we still don’t have go-to guys in the team.”
Nakahugot ng produksyon ang Bataan mula kina dating collegiate standouts Joe Presbitero ng San Beda at Anton Assistio ng Ateneo bukod pa kay guard James Castro.
Nagtala si Presbitero ng 16 points at 7 rebounds, habang may 14 markers, 6 assists at 5 boards si Castro.
Tumapos naman si Assistio, miyembro ng back-to-back champions Ateneo Blue Eagles sa ilalim ni coach Tab Baldwin, ng 13 points tampok ang tatlong triples.
Sa unang laro, tinaka-san ng Pasay Voyagers ang Navotas Clutch, 70-68.
Umiskor si Ron Lastimosa ng 14 points kasama ang go-ahead triple sa huling 1:14 minuto ng final quarter para pamunuan ang Voyagers ni mentor Keith Martin, dating assistant nina head coach Aldrin Morante at Chito Victolero.
