KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Sisimulan ng mga Filipino athletes ang kanilang kampanya sa pagbubukas ng 10th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Schools Games dito sa Dewan Agung Canselor, UiTM sa Sha, Alam.

Humigit-kumulang sa 1,500 secondary student-athletes, coaches, team managers at delegation officials mula sa 10 ASEAN member-countries ang lalahok sa nasabing five-day competition.

Sa nakaraang edisyon ng ASEAN School Games sa Singapore ay nag-uwi ang Philippines contingent ng kabuuang 13 gold, 8 silver at 21 bronze medals para pumuwesto sa 6th place.

Ang Philippine contingent ay binubuo ng 167 student-athletes at 34 coaches.

Si Malaysian Minister of Education Dr. Maszlee Bin Malik ang tatayong guest of honor sa opening ceremony ng 2018 ASEAN School Games.

Pangungunahan nina Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Charles Raymond A. Maxey, Chef-de-Mission Rizalino Jose Rosales at deputy CDM Cesar Abalon ang 230-member Philippine delegation sa parada ng mga delegado.

“I am planning to watch athletics on Saturday morning. We have promising talents in athletics,” ani Maxey.

Ang mga events na nakalatag ay ang artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, athletics, swimming, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, sepak takraw at squash.
