Petecio, Bautista sumuntok ng gold sa Poland slugfest
Warsaw, Poland -- Sumuntok ang Philippine Boxing Team ng dalawang gintong medalya sa Feliks Stamm Memorial Tournament.
Tinalo ni Nesthy Petecio, nag-uwi ng gold medal mula sa Indian Open sa New Delhi, si Omella Warner ng Germany sa finals ng women’s bantamweight (57Kg) class.
Dinomina naman ni Ian Clark Bautista ng Binalbagan, Negros Occidental si Zarip Jumayev ng Turkmenistan, 5-0, sa men’s flyweight division.
Ang 23-anyos na si Bautista ang gold medalist sa Singapore SEA Games noong 2015.
Pinuri ni Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines president at bagong Philippine Olympic Committee head Ricky Vargas ang naging kampanya ng koponan.
“I am extremely proud of our boxers who are hard at training for the Asian Games this year, next year’s SEA Games which we are hosting and all the way to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” pahayag ni Vargas. “After promising performances in the Indian Open and now in Warsaw, our long-term program is off to a good start.”
Ang 25-anyos na si Petecio, ang national mainstay ng ABAP, ay sumuntok ng silver medal noong 2014 World Championships sa Jeju, Korea at noong 2015 SEA Games.
Nagdagdag naman ng tig-isang bronze medal sina lightweight Junel Cantancio at bantamweight Mario Bautista sa kanilang mga weight categories.
Ang iba pang miyembro ng koponan ay sina light welterweight Dennis Galvan at female flyweight Irish Magno kasama sina coaches were Nolito Velasco at Joegin Ladon.
