Ateneo nagpalakas para sa Season 85

MANILA, Philippines — Nagpalakas ang Ateneo de Manila University matapos humugot ng key player para sa nalalapit na pagbubukas ng UAAP Season 85 men’s basketball tournament.

Desidido ang Blue Eagles na ma­ibalik sa kanilang teritoryo ang kam­peo­nato.

Kaya naman hinugot nito si Filipino-American guard Paul Garcia upang magdagdag ng malakas na puwersa sa kampanya nito sa darating na season ng liga.

Masaya si Garcia sa pagpasok sa Blue Eagles na isa sa may pinakamagandang programa sa collegiate league.

Naging malaking tulong pa para mapadali ang pagde­desisyon ni Garcia ang pagiging coach ni Tab Baldwin ng Blue Eagles.

“And then when I heard Ateneo was interested, that’s when I really ‘yeah this is what I wanna do. Because I already knew that their program is really big and I knew about Coach Tab already, so it was just a no-brainer really,” ani Garcia.

Sinabi ni Baldwin na malaking tulong si Garcia sa kanilang tropa lalo pa’t nabangasan ito ng ilang key players.

“We’re really happy to announce that Paul Garcia is committed to coming to Ateneo to be a Blue Eagle. Bringing Paul in, he’s not just a very, very dynamic point guard but a very well-rounded guard,” ani Baldwin.

Kabilang na sa nawala si SJ Belangel na nagpasyang mag-pro matapos pumirma ng kontrata sa isang commercial league sa Korean Basketball League sa South Korea.

Maganda ang rekord ni Garcia na naglaro ng tatlong taon sa NCAA Division III school Salisbury University. Nagtala ito ng averages na 4.0 points, 1.4 rebounds at 0.7 assists sa huling season nito sa Salisbury.

“He also has a lot of maturity and experience being a guy that comes in as a college graduate with two years of eligibility,” ani Baldwin.
