Magsayo handa na sa title defense
MANILA, Philippines — Kasado na ang game plan ni reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight champion Mark Magsayo para sa title defense nito laban kay dating world champion Rey Vargas ng Mexico.
Lalarga ang bakbakan nina Magsayo at Vargas sa Hulyo 9 (Hulyo 10 sa Maynila) sa Alamodome sa San Antonio, Texas.
Nais ni Magsayo na gayahin ang impresibong panalo ni eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao kay Mexican fighter Marco Antonio Barrera noong 2003 na ginanap sa parehong venue.
“I’m excited to be fighting in the same venue where my idol Manny Pacquiao fought Marco Antonio Barrera. That was the first fight I ever saw and the reason I started boxing,” ani Magsayo sa panayam ng Boxing Scene.
Alam ni Magsayo na matinding laban ang haharapin nito.
Kaya naman plantsado na ang magiging taktika nito para mabilis na mapataob ang Mexican fighter.
“I am very thankful to my team for giving me the opportunity to defend my title in San Antonio. We are preparing for a strong Mexican fighter in Rey Vargas,” ani Magsayo.
Umaasa si Magsayo na bandila ng Pilipinas ang iwawagayway sa oras na matapos ang laban lalo pa’t marami ang nakaabang sa Philippines-Mexico rivalry sa mundo ng boxing.
“Everyone knows what the Philippines vs. Mexico boxing rivalry brings to the ring, and I’m excited to display my talents for the boxing fans in Texas and watching around the world,” ani Magsayo.
Mataas ang respeto ni Vargas kay Magsayo.
At handa itong gawin ang lahat upang maagaw ang korona ng Pinoy champion.
“We know that he has great power, but we’ll be ready to counter that and anything else he brings to the ring. This is going to be a magnificent fight, and I can’t wait to step in there and compete,” ani Vargas.
