Brownlee itinuring nang Pinoy ang sarili
MANILA, Philippines — Sa Game Seven ay itinuring na ni Justin Brownlee ang kanyang sarili bilang isang Pinoy.
Humakot si Brownlee ng 34 points, 12 assists, 8 rebounds at 3 steals sa 114-99 panalo ng Ginebra sa Bay Area sa ‘winner-take-all’ match ng 2022-2023 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals sa harap ng record crowd na 54,589 sa Philippine Arena sa Bocaue, Bulacan noong Linggo.
“It makes it even more special. We played with all Filipinos tonight, for the first time since I’ve been here,” wika ng 34-anyos na three-time PBA Best Import. “So, that was very special.”
Tatlong araw bago ang Game Seven ay nilagdaan ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ang isang panukalang batas na nagbibigay kay Brownlee ng Filipino citizenship.
“All my teammates definitely congratulated me and they were telling me how proud they are for me becoming a Filipino. It was very special,” dagdag ng tubong Georgia, USA. “And just to top it off with a win, you know, this win is not only for Ginebra, this is for the whole country.”
Ito ang ikaanim na PBA championship ni Brownlee sa kanyang anim na PBA Finals.
“He’s still got a whole new career ahead of him, playing for the national team, and I think that’s so special,” sabi ni coach Tim Cone kay Brownlee na sisimulang isuot ang Gilas Pilipinas jersey sa darating na sixth at final window ng FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers sa Pebrero.
