MANILA, Philippines — Two detainees who tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) escaped from a quarantine facility in Del Pan, Manila yesterday but were caught hours later.

Ceasar Adriatico, 25, and Jerick Savallon, 19, were tested on May 3 while in detention at the Manila Police District Station 6, according to MPD director Brig. Gen. Rolando Miranda.

Adriatico was being held on a drug charge and Savallon for allegedly violating the law penalizing violence against women and children.

The station commander asked the MPD headquarters to place the inmates at the Delpan quarantine facility.

Personnel manning the facility discovered the two were missing at around 7:30 a.m. yesterday and informed the MPD. Miranda ordered a manhunt for the two inmates.

Savallon was taken back to the Delpan quarantine facility while Adriatico was taken to the Sta. Ana Hospital.

Miranda said he sent several teams to locate those who had contact with the two inmates.
