Pinoy shooters aasinta ng Olympics slot

MANILA, Philippines — Puntirya ng national shooting team na makahirit ng tiket sa Tokyo Olympics sa pagsabak nito sa 2019 Asian Shooting Cham­pionships sa Nobyembre 2 hanggang 11 sa Doha, Qatar.

Mangunguna sa kampanya ng Pinoy squad si shotgun shooter Hagen Topacio na nakapilak sa men’s individual trap sa Asian Shooting Championships na ginanap sa Kuwait noong 2016.

Makakasama ni Topacia sa men’s trap team sina Eric Ang, Carlos Carag at Jethro Dionisio habang hahataw sina Jeson Valdez at Amparo Acuna sa mixed rifle event.

Sasalang din sina Dennis Basila at Sean Ocampo sa rifle, Michael Angelo Fernandez, Marcelo Gonzales, Shanin Gonzalez at Juliet Arellano sa pistol events

Ang Asian Championships ay ang huling Olympic Qualifying for Asia na idineklara ng International Olympic Committee (IOC) para sa 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Ang tatlong mangunguna sa shotgun, rifle at pistol events ay awtomatikong mabibiyayaan ng tiket sa Tokyo Games.

Tiwala si Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William Ramirez sa kakayahan ng Pinoy shooters.

“We now have two Olympians in Tokyo, but we need more. That is why the PSC is supportive of all these exposures and competitions so that our athletes get big chances at making it to the ultimate competition of their careers—the Olympics,” ani Ramirez.

Sa kasalukuyan, t­a­nging sina gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo at pole vaulter EJ Obiena pa lamang ang nakasisiguro ng silya sa Tokyo Games.
