Guiao nag-resign
MANILA, Philippines — Kagaya ng kanyang naunang pahayag, hindi siya kapit-tuko sa puwesto niya.
Kahapon ay pormal nang nagbitiw si Yeng Guiao bilang head coach ng Gilas Pilipinas matapos mabigong maihatid sa panalo ang Nationals sa 2019 FIBA World Cup sa China.
“I truly and fully appreciate the efforts and sacrifices of all the players; not just those of the recent FIBA World Cup Team, but of all those who have contributed to the program since my appointment as head coach for the 2018 Asian Games,” ani Guiao.
Si Guiao ang ipinalit ng Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas kay Chot Reyes matapos ang bantog na ‘basketbrawl’ sa pagitan ng Nationals at Australia sa Asian Qualifying noong Hulyo ng nakaraang taon sa Philippine Arena sa Bocaue, Bulacan.
Sa kanyang pag-upo ay iginiya ni Guiao ang Gilas Pilipinas sa fifth-place finish noong 2018 Asian Games at sa final window ng FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
“I would also like to extend my personal thanks to the coaching staff, trainers, utilities and the management of the Gilas Team for their hard work, support, and cooperation,” wika ng coach ng NLEX sa PBA.
Pinasalamatan din ni Guiao ang managament ng Road Warriors at Rain or Shine Elasto Painters at si PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial.
“Above all, I am most thankful to SBP Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan and SBP President Al Panlilio for the opportunity to have been of service to the country in the sport I love most,” sabi ni Guiao. To all fans and friends who wished us well, supported us, and offered their prayers, I am grateful from the bottom of my heart,” dagdag pa ng mentor.
Sa pagbaba ni Guiao sa puwesto ay inaasahang makakakuha ang SBP ng kanyang makakapalit para balangkasin ang programa sa pamamahala ng bansa sa 2023 FIBA World Cup.
