Malacañang pinuri sina ‘Pacman’ at ‘Filipino Flash’
MANILA, Philippines – Kaagad nagpaabot ng pagbati ang Malacañang sa bagong WBO welterweight champion na si Manny Pacquiao sa pamamagitan ng pagtawag sa Senador bilang “National Treasure in Global Sports” matapos talunin si Jessie Vargas kahapon sa Las Vegas.
“Once again, Manny’s triumph united and brought joy to our people and our nation,” sabi ng Palasyo sa isang statement. “The discipline, the determination, and the hard work of our People’s Champ are truly what make him a National Treasure in Global Sports.”
Dinomina ni Pacquiao si Vargas via unanimous decision para agawin sa huli ang suot nitong WBO welterweight belt sa Thomas & Mack Center sa Las Vegas, Nevada.
Samantala, pinuri naman ng Malacañang si Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire, Jr. bagama’t naisuko nito ang hawak na WBO junior featherweight title laban kay Jessie Magdaleno sa kanilang undercard match.
“Nonito Donaire’s quest to be the ‘king in the ring’ unfortunately did not materialize. This, however, would not diminish the honors he bestowed to the people and to the flag. He remains ‘The Filipino Flash’ with his quick hand speed and formidable punching power,” sabi ng Palasyo sa nasabing pagkatalo ni Donaire kay Magdaleno.
