World class venue naghihintay sa 15 teams sa FIBA Asia Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Sakaling mapili ang Pi­lipinas bilang host ng 2013 FIBA-Asia Men’s Basketball Championship ay isang world-class venue ang naghihintay sa 15 kopo­nan.

Ito ang sinabi kahapon ni Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) executive director Sonny Barrios sa kahapon sa SCOOP session sa Kamayan Restau­rant-Padre Faura.

Si Barrios, kasama si dating Asian Basketball Federation secretary-ge­neral Moying Martelino, ay dadalo sa pulong ng FIBA-Asia executive board mee­ting ngayong buwan kung saan ay pagpapasiyahan ang bansang gagawaran ng karapatang magdaos ng torneo na siyang magi­ging qualifyhing tournament para sa 2014 World Championship. 

Ang world-class venue na tinutukoy ni Barrios ay ang SM Mall of Asia Arena sa Pasay City.

Nakatakdang idaos ang FIBA-Asia executive board meeting sa Setyembre 18 sa Tokyo, Japan na mamamahala sa FIBA-Asia Cup (dating Boris Stankovic Cup) sa Setyember 14-22.

“Of course, Mr. Marte­lino and myself will also be showing proof of the Philippines’ capability staging events of such magnitude by enumerating numerous international competitions we have so far hosted, the latest of which is the recent NBA Weekend project initiated by SBP president Manuel Pangilinan,” ani Barrios.

Matindi ang pagnanais ni Pangilinan na makuha ang pamamahala sa 2013 FIBA-Asia Men’s Basketball Championship.

Mismong si Pangilinan ang nangumbida kay FIBA-Asia secretary-general Khajirian Hagop para pumunta sa Maynila noong Agosto para personal na tingnan ang MOA Arena.
