Bohol families get new houses
MANILA, Philippines - Five hundred families from the municipality of Maribojoc in Bohol whose houses were damaged by the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck the province in October last year have received housing assistance from Canada.
The government of Canada, as part of its humanitarian response after the earthquake, provided C$250,000 (P10 million) to World Vision’s Progressive Core Shelter Project in the area.
“When the earthquake hit Bohol last year, Canada was one of the first countries to have pledged to assist in relief and early recovery,” Canadian Ambassador Neil Reeder said.
Canada’s total assistance to the Bohol earthquake victims amounts to C$1 million (P40 million).
“This funding was provided to humanitarian organizations such as World Vision, which were striving to meet the needs of the people affected by the earthquake,” Reeder added.
