The Macallan is one of the world’s most admired and awarded single malt whiskies. Its exceptional whiskies are 100-percent natural in color, shaped from time spent in the very best casks — including the recently launched Edition No. 5.

To celebrate The Macallan’s natural color and intricate whisky process, the brand partnered with the world-renowned Pantone Color Institute to create a uniquely bold shade of purple for the Edition No. 5’s packaging.

The Macallan whisky maker Sarah Burgess said, “We can find much common ground between whisky making and color creation and with Edition No. 5, we have been able to explore and celebrate these two art forms. Whilst color development starts with mixing basic colors with precision to achieve different shades, for whisky making, it is the knowledge and understanding of a specific palette of colors from the cask, which is the starting point. From here, we can craft the desired character and specific color of the final whisky.”

Pantone Color Institute vice president Laurie Pressman said, “As the rainbow’s most complex color, purple naturally felt like the ideal shade to highlight the equally complex process involved in The Macallan’s whisky making. This new vibrant shade developed for Edition No. 5 brings to life the exquisite combination of distinctive natural hues found in this whisky.”

The Philippine launch was held recently at the El Nido Villa of Okada Manila in Parañaque City. The villa, which was lit in purple throughout the event, featured rooms that showcased the different facets of the brand —  Black Room with the Macallan Edition Series; White Room, which represented the brand’s dedication to 100-percent natural color; Red Room, which represented the art of whisky making and color creation; and Blue Room, which represented the science of whisky making and color creation.

After drinking The Macallan 12 years old during the early part of the night, Southeast Asia brand ambassador Randall Tan and Philippine brand advocates Adrian Tecson and Hans Eckstein gave a toast so guests could finally taste the excellent Edition No. 5.

In keeping with the theme, some of the food served that night were color purple, including the devilled eggs and crispy shredded duck served on a purple yam cracker.

American oak casks were handpicked for this single malt. These casks were chosen primarily for their color in order to deliver a whisky that has a sunlit barley color accompanied by an intense flavor profile that hosts sweet notes of caramel and fresh fruit combined with oak spices.
