Showcase of culinary brilliance
Philippine cuisine is diverse. Luzon has igado and caldereta, Visayas offers humba and kinilaw, Mindanao has pyanggang and pastil. All these dishes and more recently took center stage at the nationwide cooking competition Solane Kitchen Hero Chef’s Edition.
As one of the biggest cook-offs of the year, Solane Kitchen Hero toured the country in search for the finest professional chefs. Chef Roseller Fiel II from Region IX was named the champion of the competition. He was joined by chefs June Rey Tunog, Jan Daryl Doculan, Mario Semblante, and McRhyan Rodrigo, who was the finalist.
At the helm of the competition were Isla PG Corp. CEO Ruben Domingo, Isla Petroleum and Gas CEO Atsushi Onichi and Solane marketing manager Valeri Villano. The judges were composed of Solane Kitchen Hero director Nancy Reyes Lumen, Solane Kitchen Hero ambassador chef Sau del Rosario, Anton Diaz and Spanky Enriquez.
The winner of the Solane Kitchen Hero took home P100,000 in cash and a culinary trip to Japan with customized stops at different food destinations. This cooking contest was made possible with the support of STI as the official school partner while Midea was the co-presenter. Major sponsors were Masflex, Jolly, Jolly Heartmate Canola Oil, Doña Elena and Doña Elena Al Dente. Minor sponsors were King Sue, Ajinomoto, Philtranco, FastCat, Chef’s Garb and National Book Store.

Telling time with James Reid
