Waste not, want not: UK consumers use apps to fight food waste
(Agence France-Presse) - February 14, 2020 - 6:30pm

LONDON, United Kingdom — A third of the food produced globally ends up in the bin, with most waste in the UK happening at the consumer end. With this food waste come economic losses for households and the restaurant industry, but the biggest cost by far is to the environment.

A series of apps aim to help users rescue food otherwise destined for the rubbish bin.

Around 2000 UK outlets are selling their leftover meals through the Swedish start up.

The app allows participating businesses to make some money on food that would otherwise be thrown away.

According to resource efficiency charity WRAP, food waste costs the British restaurant sector £682 million each year.
