MANILA, Philippines— The Department of Transportation-Metro Rail Transit-3 on Tuesday showed a video of the escalator in Magallanes Station northbound.

In a tweet update, the MRT-3 management said the escalator was fixed on October 10 after months of being out of service.

Passengers had reported non-functioning escalators at various MRT stations prior to this.

The DOTr-MRT-3 said majority of MRT escalators are now working.

It said 31 of 46 escalators are currently accessible to the public while all 34 units of elevators are also functional.

The train’s management said that the new maintenance provider of MRT-3, Sumitomo-MHI-TESP, targets all units of escalators to be functional by the end of the year.

“Ilang buwang mas maaga sa orihinal na target date ng rehabilitasyon ng escalators at elevators,” the DOTr-MRT3 said.

(Rehabilitation of the escalators and elevators was finished months ahead of the original target date)

According to the MRT management, the spare parts needed for the rehabilitation of units continue to arrive.

It called for the public’s support amid the ongoing rehabilitation of escalator units.

“Hangad po namin ang inyong buong suporta at pang-unawa habang ginagawa po namin ang aming makakaya upang maibalik sa dating dekalidad na serbisyo ang MRT-3,” it said.

(We are hoping for your whole support and understanding while we do our best to restore the quality of service of the MRT-3)

Trips on the MRT-3 were temporarily suspended on Tuesday after a street vagrant jumped onto and fell on the tracks between Ayala and Buendia stations.
