President Rodrigo Duterte announced in August that the Marcos family expressed willingness to return a "few" gold bars.

This is acknowledged to be a portion of the wealth the former first family—sent to temporary exile as the Marcos dictatorship was toppled—stole from the public in the 1970s and 1980s.

The offer, however, is not new to those who have been trying to recover the family's ill-gotten wealth, estimated to be around $10 billion.

While Duterte said Congress could enable the start of the negotiations with the Marcoses, a compromise agreement may not exactly be lawful, an expert said. — Video by Efigenio Toledo IV and Camille Diola
