Ruth Sindico - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Two thousand two hundred fifty-five models walked the runway on Thursday night at Glorietta's Palm Drive to put the Philippines on the Guinness World Records for the most number of people on the catwalk.

Istanbul, Turkey held the previous record with 1,967 models. It achieved this feat only last May 2012.

The fashion show coincided with the launch of the newly renovated Glorietta.

Jaime and Bea Zobel; Ayala Corp.'s Jaime Augusto Zobel; Ayala Land's Tony  Aquino, Bobby Dy, and Rowena Tomeldan were all present to witness the historic occasion.

Among the 2,256 people who walked the runway included professional models like Brent Javier and Victor Basa; Ayala officials, merchants and partners; celebrities like Sam MIlby, Geneva Cruz, Xian Lim, Divine Lee, and Hayden Kho; athletes like members of the Volcanoes, among others.

They donned the creations of popular local fashion brands like Bayo, Bench, Plains & Prints, Bench, Gibi, The Ramp, Freeway, and Maldita and foreign brands A/X Exchange, Marks & Spencer, Cache Cahe, Naturalizer, Florsheim, Mango, Melissa Shoes, Sperry Topsider and Skechers.

Apart from the fashion show, the event saw performances from Bamboo and Kyle Patrick of The Click Five. Bianca Gonzales and Billy Crawford were the event's hosts.

Ayala Land has invested P20 billion for the renovation of the new Glorietta. The renovation is only the first phase of what the company has planned for the entire Ayala Center.

Soon, three hotels (Fairmont, Holiday Inn and Raffles Hotel), two new offices that cater to BPOs, and residential developments (Park Terraces and Garden Terraces) will also rise within the 34,000-square meter commercial expanse.
