Senate probe of DOH

The Philippine Star

What is unfolding is heartening more than baffling or revolting. The battle seems to have shifted from Secretary Francisco Duque to President Rodrigo Duterte.

But as the Commission on Audit has done its part on the matter, the Senate shouldn’t let itself be bludgeoned and pushed around to be drawn away from doing what is right, within its mandate, in probing the Department of Health’s alleged mishandling of billions of pesos supposedly meant to address our pandemic problem, not to further enrich crooks.

The big-gap overpricing of face mask, face shield and other PPE materials simply cannot be explained away, even by the law of supply and demand just as the senators and other resource persons have cited actual and factual proofs to support prevailing/correct pricing for the said items at the time DOH purchased them.

Hence, it isn’t only patriotic but heroic for the senators to pursue the task at hand without letup and to the best of their ability and focus, until the truth is uncovered and justice is rendered.

The fight isn’t about personalities and there ought to be no politics involved in this. Pray that Malacañang is wrong in accusing senators as being merely politicking.

But I’m seeing dawn breaking. Let the sun be up and shining to bring to light both the good and the bad, the authentic and the pretenders, the beauty and the beast in the Filipino or all of us – for a possible fresh, brand new day to awaken slumbering souls among our officials, those in the media and our people in general.

The Senate probe of DOH can be a catalyst to represent something much higher and loftier than just ferreting out the truth as a result of an impartial, apolitical and judicious grind in the ongoing investigation.

Praise God! Democratic checks and balances appear to be rearing its sublime head to parade democracy as now being alive and well in our country, and it might thus be giving birth to national salvation, at last.
