Delivering in the clutch

The Philippine Star

Not a few expected the return of the NCR to MECQ, and rightly so. Like a ball of thread that has been unravelled by the erstwhile GCQ, COVID transmissions worsened and knotted government efforts to control its effects.  It has to take the President just one day before to make the pronouncement to push everything and everybody back to MECQ, and back to some form of sanity.

It only shows that the long-term plan to fight COVID and the economic backlash, if there truly is a blueprint, already showed negative feedbacks along the way pointing to the urgent  re-imposition of MECQ and should have been brought to the IATF and to the President for action, much, much  ahead of time – not a day before!

Some heads of departments should be more sensitive and take squarely their accountabilities. Honesty and sincerity are qualities we want to see in our leaders. But that is not all there is to leadership. When you are tasked with a serious responsibility and authority and do not or cannot perform as expected, no one need to tell you to give way and step down. You owe it to yourself and to the nation to do so. It is not the person with the badge of honesty and integrity that is needed in a life-threatening crisis, like COVID, but one who can deliver in the clutch!
