Resume peace talks in the Philippines
UP was declared a Zone of Peace, Freedom and Neutrality (ZOPFAN) during the 1056th Meeting of its Board of Regents.
UP was offered as a venue and as mediating institution for peace negotiations between the government and all armed revolutionary forces.
The “progressive” as well as the MAKABAYAN bloc has called for the resumption of Peace Talks.
President Duterte stands firmly that these be held here in the Philippines and has assured Joma Sison protection from arrest and harm.
After more than 30 years of on and off peace talks halfway across the world, it is high time that the CPP-NDF-NPA rethink its position on very basic aspects - venue and mediating institution.
Is UP acceptable to them? If not, why not?
