A means to show patriotism

The Philippine Star

It is obvious that it is a trend that most of our youth specially the millennials and even those young at heart to idolize and are so into with Korean personalities, K-POP groups, Korean novelas, Korean hairstyle, Korean beauty products and etc. that talks about Korean.

Talking so, I admit that I am one of those people who admires the Korean thing. But more than that, what I really appreciate with the Koreans is not only their exceptional talent but their love of their country.

Hence, it is in their law that requires every male to serve the military, the desire of young Koreans are being felt and even their known artists are not exempted.

I wish that here in the Philippines that we would also require every student, both male and female to take the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) so that patriotism, camaraderie, discipline and loyalty are somehow taught to them, to us.

I understand and expect that there are cases that somehow would put the mandatory ROTC in bad image or in a hot seat, and no institution or program can escape it because there are some people who are against it. But what is important is the positive result or outcome that it would give the youth especially the good leaders of our country that somehow became part of the ROTC before.

I hope this letter could help see the importance of ROTC to us and to the young generations. It is much better to support the ROTC than to support the left leaning groups and the CPP-NPA groups that destroy our hope, future and our country. – Edward Aquino Marquez
