Briones: Balance S&T with culture, arts
DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines — Education Secretary Leonor Briones has urged more than 3,000 students and their coaches during the opening of the five-day National Festival of Talents here from to strike a balance between science and technology, and culture and arts.
“I’ve always insisted that our concerns with science and technology, which are very, very important, have to be balanced with literature, culture, arts crafts, with different services,”Briones said in her speech.
“If you focus only on science and technology and these are very exciting, very innovative... we must keep our soul as well,” she added.
“We have the capacity to face the challenge of the 24th century and the challenges are many because we have a soul, and that is the Filipino soul. And what makes the Filipino soul, of course, is our culture, our talent, our history, our capacity to survive,” Briones said.
