Conference to unlock key to happiness and well-being

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — What is the “science of happiness”?

This is the question seven speakers will answer in the 1st Philippine Positive Psychology Conference: Embracing the Science of Happiness and Well-being conference to be held on Apr. 16 to 17, 2018 at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria.

Positive Psychology, a scientific study of positive human functioning and flourishing on multiple facets including biological, personal, institutional, cultural, and global dimensions of life. Contrary to popular belief, Positive Psychology is not just mere “positive thinking” or “self-help.”

“We are bringing the Positive Psychology Conference here in the Philippines because we think it needs to be at the center of discussion. According to the 2017 Gallup survey, we are the third happiest country in the world, but one thing must be asked: Are Filipinos reaping the benefits of happiness?” Rose Pagdanganan, director of The School of Positive Psychology, and principal consultant for All for Wellbeing and Empowerment (AWE) said.

“Research suggests that happy people experience success in major domains of life, but if we take a look around us, are we even thriving or merely surviving?” she added.

Internationally acclaimed Positive Psychology experts will come together to teach the science behind happiness and how it will help in our well-being.

The program will be keynoted by Dr. Robert Biswas-Diener, widely known as the “Indiana Jones of Positive Psychology” because his research on happiness and other positive topics have taken him to such far-flung places as Greenland, Kenya and India. He is also considered as the foremost authority on positive psychology coaching and has consulted with a wide range of international organizations on performance management and leadership development.

Speakers also include: Sulynn Choong, founder and chief engagement officer of the Asian Center for Applied Positive Psychology; Dr. Gregor Lim-Lange, co-founder of Forest Wolf and Senior Lecturer at the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Psychology department; Shaen Yeo, the founder of Positive Education Singapore; Tara Schofield, lecturer and trainer with The School of Positive Psychology Singapore; Martina Maurer, co-founder and chief transformation officer of Terra Asia Consulting; and Jana Dawson, positive psychology and mindfulness trainer with The School of Positive Psychology Singapore.

“We believe that this one-of-a-kind conference will give participants a very good insight on how they can apply the methodologies of positive psychology in the areas of mental heath, education and organizational development utilizing them for life and career progression,” Pagdanganan added.

The conference is open to professionals whose jobs are related to positive psychology such as psychologists, psychotherapists, educators, guidance counsellors, coaches, top and mid-level managers, and HR managers. It is also open to students who want to further their knowledge in Positive Psychology.

The conference rate is P15,000 for professionals, and P10,000 for undergraduate students. Fees include the conference kits, meals, access to speaker’s presentations, and special discounts on future events.
