Arroyo confirms deputy speaker post
MANILA, Philippines — Former president and incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Wednesday confirmed that she is one of the Deputy Speakers of the House of Representatives.
According to a report from state-run PTV-4, Arroyo will be supportive of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Arroyo has filed a bill before the House which calls for a constituent assembly in support of the administration's legislative agenda.
The Supreme Court recently dismissed plunder charges against the former president in connection with the alleged misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office intelligence funds during her term.
The Pampanga lawmaker had been under house arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City from October 2012 to July 2016.
Arroyo went back to the VMMC on Wednesday to donate medical equipment including dialysis units, beds and air conditioning units.
